Takeaway food packaging: Flat makes sense
A sustainable packaging solution for takeaway food has won Kemira's innovation challenge. The competition was launched by the global chemicals company serving customers in water intensive industries under the motto "Food for Thought", and it reportedly is organized in order to find new business models and alternatives to single use plastics in food packaging.
Winner after a 2-day camp
The winning team of food packaging and behaviour design professionals, represented by Janne Asikainen and Riitta Mettomäki, is called Koepala. At the end of an intensive 2-day camp they presented a sustainable and functional packaging solution for takeaway food. The jury chose the winners among four teams that were invited to participate in the camp.
Known for patented takeaway design
The Finnish packaging company is known for its patented all-in-one takeaway packaging format Aterimo that is said to serve any type of takeaway food or beverage. According to its developers, Aterimo alleviates the need for lids, caps, sleeves or other additional items. Designed to be flat during the storage and logistics phase, it can be filled and served quickly, and it with a unique opening mechanism it can be transformed it from packaging to a bowl or cup easily.
