Save the date: Sustainable Packaging in Boston on 10-11 July

On 10 and 11 July, two interrelated packaging events will be taking place in Boston, Massachusetts/USA.

The future of packaging

The first event on 10 July is the 5th international annual FBEP Conference on HRM and Skills Development in Packaging. It reportedly will focus on the skills and knowledge needed for the packaging-related workforce in food, non-food, design, e-commerce and the manufacturing of packaging materials. Topics are said to include the future skills needed for packaging designers in the pharma industry (by GSK Healthcare), novel ways to acquire knowledge through Live Online Learning worldwide without the need to travel but with full interaction (by NVC Education), how to recruit and retain packaging talent in today’s manufacturing (by PMMI/IoPP) and the future of packaging work in an automated world (by Omron Automation).

The global status quo in packaging

The second event on 11 July is the Workshop Packaging and Evironment across the Atlantic that is said to share the global status quo in packaging but to also feature a  'flash-back' to the 1972 Limits to Growth report to the Club of Rome by Donella Meadows, Dennis Meadows et.al. from MIT Boston. The film made in 1972, showing the basic research and the conclusions of the report, has been digitized this year and will be shown at the Boston event as a tribute to Donella Meadows and her co-scientists. The workshop reportedly aims to draw lessons from the film as a source of inspiration for the decades to come. Thought-leaders in packaging reportedly will share their views and the the key-issues to be solved will be debated in dedicated round table discussions for all participants to join.
