Milk packaging 100 % recyclable by 2025
The New Zealand based dairy company Fonterra is committed to making all its packaging recyclable, reusable or compostable by 2025. The cooperative also aims to stop dumping waste by 2025. Milk bottles are already being recycled in shampoo, rinse and lotion bottles. " Around 90% of our products sold in New Zealand already recyclable, which is great progress," said Carolyn Mortland, Fonterra Director of Sustainability.
CO2 neutral by 2050
In 2017, a commitment was made to reduce greenhouse greenhouse gas emissions by 30 % by 2030 compared to 2015 and to bring them to zero by 2050. The company is working with the New Zealand Ministry of the Environment to achieve this. As part of this, funds were approved last year by New Zealand's Energy Efficiency and Nature Conservation Agency to fund the installation of new emission-reducing technologies at the Brightwater dairy.
