Migration modeling as a fast evaluation test

Determination of Non-Intentionally Added Substances (NIAS) and evaluation thereof in food packaging materials are challenging. Non-target analytical screening methods in the migration solutions with detection limits of 10 ìg/L (or lower) are labor-intensive and expensive. For most of the NIAS found in
PET, laboratory migration tests are not necessary anymore. In the special case of PET packaging
materials, NIAS evaluation can be performed on basis of a material screening test combined with migration modelling. The presented modelling method is useful for production control of PET preforms and bottles.
