Bobst with sales up 8.7% in 2016

In 2016, Bobst Group achieved consolidated sales of 1.349 billion euros. This represents an increase of 108 million euros, or +8.7%, compared to 2015. According to the Swiss-based group's report, the operating result (Ebit) was 96.7 million euros (2015: 78.2 million euros), while the net result was 78.6 million euros (2015: 62.5 million euros). The return on capital employed (ROCE) increased to 19.9% compared to 16.0% in 2015. Globally, order entries were at same level as last year.

In detail, sales of sheet-fed products increased by 8.5% to 666 million euros. This growth reportedly was driven by a very strong demand for products for the corrugated industry. The demand for products for the folding carton industry remained stable. Sales of web-fed products increased by 4.0% reaching 288 million euros. The demand for special machines and complex lines remained at a similarly low level as in 2015. Sales of services and spare parts strongly increased, up 12.8% to 394 million euros. According to the supplier of equipment and services to the packaging and label industries, this represents the best year since the creation of the Business Unit Services in 2010.

The group expects 2017 to be another “unpredictable year”. The way that countries are run under new political leaderships may influence global trade and change its dynamics. Although the markets will remain unpredictable, there will still be plenty of opportunities, the company stated. For instance, the group will open its third Chinese production site in early 2018. Furthermore, the manufacturer will develop a competence center for digital printing technology.
