Together with machinery and packaging provider Gualapack, the German fruit snack brand erdbär launches its product line “Freche Freunde” (“Cheeky Friends”) in a bio-based premade pouch. According to the company, the new eco-friendly packaging demonstrates its commitment towards sustainability, achieving a unique position in the German snack market for kids.

The premade multi-layer laminated pouch, with spout and cap, is said to be mainly made of bio-based polyethylene obtained from renewable sources, such as sugar cane. The Freche Freunde reportedly offer a range of snacks for children for on-the-go, made of 100% organic fruit and veg with no added sugar or additives.

For the Italian machinery and flexible packaging manufacturer, the launch of a new generation of its eco-friendly CheerNext, reportedly made of more than 80% of renewable sourced polymers, is a world première. The laminates used for this development are the bio-based LamiNext, an internal production by Safta, part of the group.
